We're dropping IE6 support as part of our standard service

You already know we build websites for clients, right? We’re very commited to making these sites higly useable, and to writing their code so it’s standards-compliant. Until now, we’ve been putting a lot of extra effort getting those sites to work well in Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft’s web browser from 2001.
Well, no more.

Inspired by 37 signals dropping IE6 support last year, YouTube recently announcing the similar (it is one of the most biggest and widest appealing sites our there), but most of all with the incredibly clever IE6 denial message at Momentile, we have decided to remove IE6 support from our standard service. It is still going to be available upon request, but only as an additional service. Meanwhile, IE6 users will be greeted with a friendly message and tips on how to upgrade their browser.

If at this point you’re wondering “what’s wrong with IE6”, let us just say it’s too old and too quirky. All this extra effort around IE6-specific customizations could be put to so much better use. Besides, Microsoft already released two major software revisions – IE7 in 2006. and IE8 in 2009. If you must stick with Internet Explorer, please get a newer version.

Addendum:
Our friends over at Nivas published a blog post titled Why the IE6 will not die. We highly recommed you read both the post and the comments that follow, as to get a better understanding of the IE6 situation nowdays.
